The Reference Librarian is a professional position and is a major provider of reference services and bibliographic instruction in the library on our McMinnville campus and through distance services. The reference librarian also participates as a team member for collection development. The reference librarian is knowledgeable about print, non-print, and electronic resources. This librarian participates as an effective and active member of the professional and support library team.
A Master's degree of Library Science or Master's degree of Information Science or an equivalent degree from a graduate institution accredited by the American Library Association (ALA).
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reference Services: Assists and teaches students, faculty, and the community users how to access and acquire information using the online public access catalog, the Internet and Internet accessible databases, CD-ROM databases and print resources. Provides leadership in the development and maintenance of the library’s web page including revising pages as needed, recommending web sites, and preparing reports on web page usage. Works regularly scheduled hours (both day and evening) at the reference desk.
Bibliographic Instruction: Presents bibliographic instruction for Motlow students and the community; including tours for classes in use of the library; instruction in the use of library sources to classes on request, both in the library and in the classroom; and written guides to the library collection, both course-oriented and subject specific, which may be posted to the library’s web page.
Collection Development: Evaluate and recommend library purchases of print, non-print, and electronic resources to maintain a balance of subjects in the collection; solicit and accept recommendations from faculty in subject areas; and notify faculty of new materials in their subject area. This librarian may oversee the serials collection, print, microfilm, lease collection, and electronic resources.
Other Library Duties: Keeps statistics on all aspects of reference work and reports this information monthly to the director. Cooperates with circulation services and working at circulation as needed. Works
effectively with all areas of the library including distance education services. May act for the Director in
his/her absence. Serves on campus committees as appointed.
